Things You Didn’t Always Want To Know.
The other night the question arose concerning when, in its periodic development, a canine puppy would begin lifting its leg to pee. Referencing this very important fact, by accessing the internet, was revealing and entertaining. The statistical conclusions herein, are fast and loose assumptions based on reviewing approximately two dozen websites found in order of search for “When does a dog begin to lift its leg to pee?”
The first revelation was that, hands down, the British Commonwealth was the most concerned with the answer to this inquiry. The UK of course led in reference, followed by Australia, New Zealand, and two Canadian provinces. The United States’ resources were paltry, at least up to the third page. One could conclude that the Brits, Celtic Scots, and the Irish, who own dogs, have a lot of time on their hands.
There were dozens of interesting factoids in addition to the answers for the “question”. Probably the most important is the distinction between actually urinating, to nature’s call, and the instinctual marking of territory. For the English this action is known as “cocking” the hind leg. In the process of leaving scent, nature compels the animal to spray the pee upwardly to accommodate the best windward advantage for disseminating the odiferous same. Thus, the inclination for even some female canines (Beta as in butch?) to display this behavior.
As for how soon a male puppy would begin doing this? Some suggested that neutering played a role in whether the dog would ever cock its hind leg. Age varied from a low of three and a half months to never. The statistical “math” broke at approximately one third of the opinions saying leg lifting occurred at less than one year. The middle third, a year to a year and a half. And the final third over a year and a half to never. Most dog owners concurred that their animals did both – sqat and cocking, whether neutered or not.
In the not too distant future I will do an investigative piece on “Those who stare at their navels for extended periods - - - and why? Stay tuned.
What’s News Today?
It was a news flash and then seemed to be obscured by the Emperor’s recent racist claims. "Check Please." How being mistaken for a waiter because you're wearing a tuxedo and you're black is a reach even for the Jesse and Al show.
I’m referring to the CIA revelation regarding torture, in interrogation procedures, of Islamic terrorists.
You know, just the thought of drowning gives me the willies. I can’t deny that waterboarding is horrific. I also wonder how much truth there is in the media’s claims that little, if any, information was gathered as a result of using this method to interrogate prisoners of the worst ilk? That could be a pertinent point if the actual waterboarding wasn’t the real issue instead of the result of same.
In the case of Islamic jihadists and other Muslim radicals, the entire religiously based cultural mores used to ground so called society in many of the Islamic countries is in and of itself, barbarically horrific. Cutting innocent civilian’s heads off with butcher knives and clevers is one example. Video taping of the act and invoking God’s name as justification is several levels below just being evil. The attack on and shooting of any child, much less an entire school is again sadistically barbaric.
The circumcision of women. The forced or bartered marriage of prepubescent girls who are then raped, sodomized and held as chattels is uncivilized and grossly criminal by any standard. Women who are assaulted and raped are then blamed for the occurrence. Upon being judged, they are then stoned to death often by their immediate family members.
We give many of these perpetrators pallets of U.S. currency to be our friends. We lavish high technology, training, business assistance, and military aid to these rainy day buddies with no strings attached. That, by the way, includes the lives of our brightest and best, given in vain. They laugh as we leave the room. Most of them are dictators by force but if they are our friends against other dictators who aren’t, we pay dearly in homaged blackmail.
I’m thinkin’ that that waterboarding thing is not as awful as it sounds when applied to the appropriate threat. I’ll keep thinking about this one. It’s too ugly to let go.
Cuba Libre! Someday soon?
The U.S. has secretly moved forward with a long needed, and awaited, accommodation with Cuba. Our grand-standing politicians who need the south Florida vote and subsequent contributions are machinating before the cameras. While huffing and puffing and pointing fingers few, if any, are acknowledging that this movement was the brainchild of Pope Francis who made the suggestion to both governments last summer. Obama obviously didn’t think anything would come of it and was caught off guard when matters materialized. Next step? Some of that foreign aid, monetary persuasion to stop acting like such bad boys.
