What The . . . ?
Two noteworthy things have dominated the “news” lately. Each turned out to be extraordinary, one much more so, than the other. The tragic deaths in Charleston, perpetrated by a pathetic sociopath have played out to a final issue about the Confederate flag. That is pathetic too. One Hundred fifty years later the flag doesn’t represent the same things that it meant to those who gave their lives on the bloody fields of Civil War.
Historically, it has value. But, the present day connotation has little to do, if anything, with state’s rights. It doesn’t even have to be said. When you see a pick-up truck flying a big “Dixie”, you know what you think. And you’re pretty close about what you think of the driver. You take a pipsqueak with a big gun and the balls to shoot a bunch of old people in God’s house and you have the epitome of a coward’s terrorist act. That nasty taste isn’t going anywhere. All the excuses, explanations, and machinations in the world about the Confederate flag of today, don’t change it.
This is the United States of America and often these days the inherent freedoms that we see exercised in public are not pleasant and for a lot of us not acceptable. Donald Trump shooting off his mouth is getting the response it deserves. It also leaves a crappy taste though, and it leaves consequences. What he said is stupid. However, the tone and conviction regarding the issue of immigration is serious and dramatic.
Consequences. The Republican party may be on the threshold of self-destruction. They think that millions of dollars can be plunked down on the election table “all in”. They think that perceptions are changed by TV ads alone. Not so fast, the Democrats think the same way. What has happened with Mr. Trump and the luke warm responses of the dozen or so Republican candidates is the biggest gift the party has given the Democrats, outside of Cuba, this decade. Have you noticed all the threats about blocking Cuba’s transition by Republicans?
Trust me, the Democrats will mop the floor with the Cuban issue and they will craft a lame-o immigration bill that will assure them of a mammoth block of votes for the future. Our country is changing dramatically and we common citizens will not stop it. The Democrats have turned the Executive authority into legislative fiat. They have fixed it so that government can make you buy the medical insurance they peddle. No choice. Another generation from now, our people will have few choices. That is just the beginning. The part for the have nots is good, but the haves, as usual, are paying for it. Call it what you will, it’s the smiley face of socialism.
The Congress no longer has to worry about making laws, the Supreme Court now does that, handily, re-interpreting the Constitution to make new cultural “feel good” mandates.
“Me-me. Screw you. My rights. My due.” This should replace “In God We Trust” on the next nickle.
Shots Fired - First By Mouth, Then In Foot
A few weeks back, Ex- Inglis commissioner Sally Price weighed-in with some typical (for her) observations regarding something she should know something about. As usual that is, was, & won’t be, the case anytime soon. Her “Letter to the Editor” in the Bottom Feeder Gazette, in June 17th issue attacked the Withlacoochee Gulf Area Chamber of Commerce and implied matters that were uninformed, untrue and a lame continuation of what she does best. She doesn't even know how many members there are in the chamber today.
Dr. Dick Streeter, former Chamber President from 2012 to 2014 sets her straight. He and a hand full of business owners picked up where Price left one of her messes. Sadly, she won't stop. She ain't got nuthn' else to do but report the "news" in Inglis? ? ?
If she ever leaves, she’ll be remembered for her ability to take a smidgen of the truth and turn it into a WHOPPER! She can’t like the place. She wants to dissolve the town of Inglis. That cost her the election. She tried and failed to get yours truly recalled from the Inglis Commission and in the process scared the hell out of dozens of retirees. They thought the town was going to take their trailers. A judge threw that out in 24 hours. Now she’s after the business community. And why not? Businesses reflect community pride. Price is clueless on that one.
Here’s her “informative letter” click . . .Here.

Thank You Dick!
